Worship is the ascription of value to something intrinsically worthy of receiving our adoration. Certain acts are individual and communal expressions of worship such as singing and making music, prayer, and study of God's word. In light of his tremendous gift of salvation, he only wants one response from our storehouse of affection... give ourselves entirely unreservedly, and unequivocally to him... as an act of worship!

Transformation vs. Conformation

Romans 12:1–2 ESV
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Bulletin Introduction
Has anyone ever pleaded with you? Likely, if you have kids, you can quickly recollect the last time you were approached with a plea. It’s not a command. It’s more like a “needy” request with relational capital on the line.
Have you ever pleaded with someone else? Was it someone you knew well or someone with whom you had years of relationship to lean on?
Today’s text begins with a plea. Given the prodigious theology of the previous 11 chapters, and especially the final section of chapter 11, Paul commands - but, through a plea, that the church in Rome present their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God. That would be their spiritual act of worship.
Our work and worship ought to walk hand-in-hand. God has shown us through his son, Jesus, an indescribable grace the extends our worship well into the warp and woof of work life.
Have you considered your role as a manager, FBI Employee, hospital servant of any status (from doctor to dishwasher) or a public servant as inseparable from worship? Today, because of the remarkable salvation Christ has given to completely transform us into His image and to know His will, I plead with you. See that the unsearchable judgments of God made a way for you and me to obtain heaven and work as a servant of the God of the universe, worshiping him with your life.
